For You

Faithful people are hard to come by. Even trustworthy people have broken promises. In a broken world, trust is earned slowly and can be lost in a single moment of failure. Even important and powerful people break their word. Presidents who promise a total reform fail to fulfill their word, and when those who desire power receive it, those who helped them get it are soon forgotten. In short, no one is completely, fully and totally trustworthy.

We all constantly fall short. Which makes this next thought so beautiful. In contrast to the failure we see in the entire human race, we see the faithfulness, trustworthiness and perfection of God. In the darkest moments of our failure, the light of God’s promises shines brightly, bringing relief and joy to the soul.

As the Creator, God could will everything out of existence in an instant. The Word that flung galaxies upon galaxies into the vastness of Space could wipe them all out on a whim. The eyes that burn with holy fire could incinerate every living thing with one thought. The hand that causes every heart to beat could cease holding every atom together, as everything turns to dust and is blown away into nothingness. This is not too much for God.

And yet, this same Creator chooses to come down to man and form a relationship with him. Yes, God could wipe out all things, yet, He does not. God chooses to make promises to mankind, binding Himself in a covenant with His creation. He chooses to make a way of purchasing for Himself a people for all eternity. He chooses to become Immanuel, and keep His promises even as people mock the Son of God and spit in His face. He does not cease holding His creation together, even as the hands He Himself created nail Him to a cross. Here, we see true faithfulness. Here, the mercy of God is put on display for all to see.

Throughout history, God’s faithfulness has proven to be true, again and again. Yes, we can trust Him fully when He says that not one of His children will be snatched from His hand. Yes, we can trust Him fully when He says that He will accept us on the basis of what Christ has done, and that we will not be cast away from His presence. Yes, we can trust Him fully when He says that He cares for us, that He sympathises with us, and that He loves us with an unshakeable, immovable love.

Tell your heart these things, hold fast to them and fight for them. Tell your soul with boldness, “These truths are mine!”. And when your heart doubts, trust in the One who is faithful, even to the point of death on a cross. Ultimately, dear Christian, may your heart worship as you trust in the God who does not and cannot lie. For this same God is for you.
