And So, We Wait

From the moment Eve ate from the forbidden tree, all of Creation has been waiting. Waiting, for the promised Seed who would defeat sin and death, and crush the head of the deceiving Serpent. Waiting, for a Son to be born. Waiting, for a Prince. Waiting, for Emmanuel.

The cry of a baby cuts through the normal hustle and bustle of village life. The hum of the night life within a busy town all but drowns out this cry. Yet, this cry marks a glorious moment. The waiting has ended. For in the feeding trough of animals lies the long awaited Son. Here lies the wonderful Counsellor, the Prince of Peace, the Everlasting Father, Mighty God.

The promised, eternal warrior King has come! The skies come alive with the sound of Heaven’s victorious shouts. Worship bursts from Creation as the long awaited Creator draws His first breath. Here is the pinnacle of eternity and the centre of the entire universe: Jesus.

And while Christmas is a time that reminds us of this glorious moment in history, it is also a time that reminds us that we too wait. We wait for this same King to return. We wait, for Jesus to snatch us away to be with Him. We wait for this just King to judge the Earth in righteousness, to pour His wrath on those who have rejected and scorned Him. We wait for God to restore all things, to make His kingdom on Earth, and to dwell with man.

In our groaning, we wait. In our weakness, we wait. In our weariness, brokenness and desolation, we wait. For God will do what He has promised, and so, we wait.

For God with us will come to save
And surely He shall comfort those He loves
And so we wait
